The first step is the most difficult.
But I took that step today.
This coming new year will be a momentous year for me. More to come on that as it unfolds.
I'm terrible at making friends.
I take forever to warm up to people. So, it’s awkward when someone asks to hang out and grab drinks. I don’t even know if you’re someone I want as a friend.
It’s not personal. I’m just slow.
I've been at work for 20 minutes and I'm already...
So, Documentary Friday?
I hate Blu-ray + DVD combo packs.
I only want the DVD, thanks. I’d rather not pay the couple extra dollars for the DVD that I’ll never use.
And don’t even get me started on Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy combo packs. Just let me buy what I want without forcing me to take all these other copies, too.

I made hummus with my food processor tonight.
And, gah, it was so good. I made it with garlic and green chiles. Here’s the recipe I used in case you want to make your own. It’s a combination of a couple recipes I found online.
One clove of garlic One 15 to 20 oz. can of garbanzo beans or chickpeas, drained Two tablespoons of tahini The juice of one lemon One small can of chopped green chiles Two tablespoons of olive oil
Pulse...
Today is a slow day at work.
Last week my boss said I could leave early if things were slow—as long as we have our shit done. And, yeah, I’ve got all my shit done for the day/week.
So, I’m watching some documentaries and will probably leave around 2 or 3pm.
Happy Thursday.
Today feels like Sunday
Because I have to work tomorrow after having multiple, consecutive days off. But the great thing is that if today is Sunday then tomorrow is Monday and the next day is Friday. And then it’s another long holiday weekend.
Hooray for short work weeks!

Boxing Day
“Once you’ve taken a few punches and realize you’re not made of glass, you don’t feel alive unless you’re pushing yourself as far as you can go.”

I’ve been at work for an hour and a half.
My grandfather died seven years ago today.
He was a crazy bastard who spent his last few years in prisons and hospitals.
Sure, much of his world was disgusted by the things that landed him in prison, but he was still my grandfather.
I miss him.
My family is close, but we don’t touch each other. We all keep our physical distance. My paternal grandparents weren’t like that. My grandmother is still really touchy—but in an...
Sometimes you just have to go to Best Buy and buy...
Oh, and you get a free $10 gift card when you buy three HBO items.
Today I will be watching Homeland and...
Today and tomorrow will be fairly slow at work due to the fact that most items bought online will not arrive at the buyer’s address until after Christmas.
So, that means a lot of people stop buying a lot until—except for gift cards and items with expedited shipping.
And that means that my job is much easier this week and next week.
I don't know how I've lived so long without Funny...
It’s great because it feels like every story you hear from a drunk friend—except it’s a story about history.

I wish there was an archive feature for Tumblr...
So, then I could go back and see what I liked in 2008 without having to just keep scrolling down the Liked page. That could be fun. Or terrifying.
What are your holiday plans?
I’m picking my brother up from O’Hare on Saturday morning and then going to my parents’ house for the long weekend and then it’s back to work on Thursday. I’ve got five Christmases lined up:
Friday: Dinner/gift exchange with Lance and Davita, two of my best friends
Saturday: Dinner/gift exchange with my parents, siblings, and brother-in-law
Sunday: Dinner/gift exchange with extended...

It was a 2+ hour lunch at a little French restaurant down the street. None of us wanted to return to work.

clientsfromhell:
I worked in a call center for a well known cable/broadband provider when an older woman calls about her TV not working properly.
CLIENT: “I cannot get a picture on my TV.” ME: “Is it just black, or are there some numbers or text on the screen?” CLIENT: “No picture, but I can see the clock telling me what time it is.” ME: “Ok, there should be some buttons on the side where you...

Al: Where did you grow up?
Me: In [middle-sized Illinois town].
Al: Oh, yeah, I remember that now. Did you go to [private college near my house]?
Me: No, but my brother did. It's a nice school. Actually, one of my good friends graduated from there a couple years ago.
Al: Yeah, it's a nice school, but a lot of walking and stairs.
Me: Well, my friend is in a wheelchair so...

Gah. I love them all.
I just want to go to bed.
But I’m on call. And there was an issue with the site that I’ve been working on for a couple hours now and it’s finally almost resolved.
So now I’m just waiting to see the fix live on site and then I’m going to crash until like noon tomorrow.
